Clocks
The term “clock” refers to any device that is used to indicate, measure, and display time.It is derived from the Celtic words clagan and clocca which means. During the Ancient times, a clock was just simply a device that announces intervals of time acoustically like a ringing bell or a gong. This type of clock appeared during the 13th century in Europe. Nowadays, it is considered as a silent device or an instrument that indicates intervals of time. Unlike the Ancient times, clocks nowadays can be carried by a person’s hand. Clock can be classified as one of the human’s oldest inventions. Same as the goal of other inventions, to make living easier by means of technology, it can help people to determine very specific value of time in an easier way. People now know how long it would take before the sunrises or before the night comes. Well, this seems to be so easy compared to just determining the day, the month, or the year.
Clocks can be classified as either mechanical or electrical. During the 13th Century, the most common is the mechanical clock. The operation involved in this type of clock is dependent on the weight suspended from a cord mantled around a pulley, a pendulum, or a mainspring. From the continuous rise of modern technology, timekeeping methods have been changed. Electric clock has been developed with the used of a battery. People have used different types of clock. The alarm clock produces a sound or a buzz tore mind them some change or intervals of time. The idea on making this type of clock was issued to clockmaker Seth Thomas in 1876.
Aside from creating a sound, there are alarm clocks also that talks and nag you when it’s time to get up.Wall clock which is very common nowadays is battery-operated clock. It comes with different designs. Most houses have at least one wall clock. The mechanism behind this clock was originated from a larger version of clock. Variety of wall clock has been created. Cuckoo clock,a pendulum driven clock that indicates hours through an imitation cuckoo sound. An earlier form of wall clock is the lantern clock. It is very popular in the 17th century.
It is also known as “bird-cage” or “chamber” clock. The banjo clock is very popular in the US. It was invented by Simon Williard of Massachusetts. The pendulum bob is supported by a rectangular base at the bottom of a banjo-shaped material. Some clocks were displayed in public. Well obviously, this is to allow public to access the time. Examples of this are parliament clock and tower clock.
Parliament clocks were displayed by various institutions following the 1797 introduction of a British clock tax. The tower clock can be seen as part of the design of a building. It has different faces to allow time to be seen from any directions. Bracket clock, long case clock, and mantel clock are standing clocks. This types of clocks can be mounted on tables, shelves, mantelpieces, and floors. Aside from displaying time, long case clock is also used to display the phase of the moon.
Atomic clock, tide clock, quartz clock, and water clock are examples of high-tech clocks. Bothe atomic and quartz clocks use vibration system. But atomic clocks provide greater degree of accuracy. Tide clocks are common to those who live near the sea. They measure the intervals of time by considering the change of the tide. Water clocks were one of the ancient forms of clocks, like sundials but only works on a sunny day.
The use of this atomic is not to measure time but instead to measure duration. Unique type of clocks like Kit cat clock, mystery clock, and skeleton clock are very popular collectible items. Kit cat clock can be seen as an answer to the condition of the times. A mystery clock is byhorological conjuring trick. From the name itself, skeleton clock is obviously a clock without a case. You can obviously see how it works. Most people cannot get through the day without checking their clocks or watches.Knowing every second, every minute, and every hour of the day is one of the most important parts of living. This is how clocks became one of the most important inventions of mankind.
